Speaking at an event in Dubai, the 60-year-old actor shared, “I wanted to become so big that my late parents could spot me from the sky.”
The 60-year-old actor was in Dubai with his longtime friend Farah Khan to attend the launch of Shahrukhz by Danube, a commercial tower named in his honour.

Reflecting on what shaped his life, he said, “My life-changing moment, Farah—since we’re talking about that—was the passing of my parents when I was very young. I thought they had become stars in the sky. Mujhe laga woh tara ban chuke hain and they will not be able to see me.”

He continued, “So I worked harder to become a bigger person. God has been very kind. I recently installed a bronze statue of myself from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in London, I won a National Award, and now there’s a building in Dubai that carries my name. The idea was to become so big on Earth that my parents could see me from heaven. For me, that is the life-changing moment.”
Looking up at the towering structure, Farah Khan remarked, “This is as close to the sky as one can get.” Shah Rukh Khan smiled and replied, “I hope they can see me from there.”
Shah Rukh Khan lost both his parents before he entered films—his father, Taj Mohammed, when he was just 14, and his mother when he was 24.
